Other Side of the Game

About This Project

Other Side of the Game is the debut play by Canadian playwright Amanda Parris, spotlighting the often-overlooked contributions of Black women in community activism and their support for incarcerated loved ones. The narrative oscillates between the 1970s, where Beverly seeks to join a group of Black activists, and the present day, following Nicole as she reconnects with her ex-boyfriend amidst societal challenges. This poignant drama delves into themes of resilience, systemic oppression, and the enduring strength of Black women. Premiered in 2017 at Toronto's Aki Studio Theatre, the play received critical acclaim and was honored with the Governor General's Literary Award for Drama in 2019.
