About This Project

The Death Doula is a Canadian short film directed by Amanda Parris and Lucius Dechausay, released in 2021. Set in a near-future where an app predicts individuals' death dates, the narrative follows a death doula assigned to assist his first love in her final moments. The film stars Andy McQueen, Bahia Watson, and Jennifer Podemski. It was recognized with the Best Short Film award at the Caribbean Tales International Film Festival. The Death Doula was also featured at the Montreal International Black Film Festival. The film offers a poignant exploration of mortality, love, and the human experience.
