About This Project

The Death News is a short film written by Amanda Parris and directed by Charles Officer, featured in the 2021 anthology series 21 Black Futures. Set in a near-future where premature Black death is an inevitability, the narrative centers on a man who records his own obituary for a television program called 'The Death News,' which broadcasts testimonials by the recently deceased. The film stars Lovell Adams-Gray in the lead role. The Death News won the 2022 Canadian Screen Award for Best Writing in a Web Program or Series.
